And what you are going through matters.

Welcome

Welcome to my practice! I'm Jo, a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. Here I specialise in providing support for clients dealing with both current challenges and long standing issues.

Whether you are considering therapy for the first time or you are revisiting the therapeutic process, I am happy to support you with my deep regard, professionalism, expertise and experience. I will ensure you have a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your challenges, find solutions and make positive changes in your life.

Feel free to get in touch if you would like to know more about working together.

How I Work

My integrative approach is informed by insights from a variety of recognised psychotherapeutic modalities, attachment theory and emerging neuroscience. I look through an all-inclusive humanistic lens and we can then make your uniqueness our focal point.

Working with me will include focusing on your earlier experiences and relationships, as it is these that shape our present and can interfere with our future. This reflective approach can help with numerous life challenges and your efforts can be rewarded and be enduring.

Like any investment, the more you can put in the better your return. You can come to me for a time of your choosing. You may come with a clear focus and need only stay for a short while, or you may be seeking or sensing the need for a deeper exploration and you may find ongoing sessions provide the consistency needed to work through more troubling challenges, from your past or present. However long we work together, my focus is that you are rewarded with life-changing outcomes.

I offer weekly sessions because it is proven to be a successful approach for counselling and I know that your commitment will repay you.

Professional Services

In my practice I work with Individuals, and with Couples and my primary focus is working with adults.

Areas that deeply interest me and inform my work are the impacts of early childhood development, both pre and post birth, and attachment. I also have a strong personal affinity with exploring and working with the connections between the mind and body. I share the widely supported belief that our past experiences can be stored in our bodies, with significant implications for our present well-being and health. If this resonates with you I am happy to offer support as we explore this.

Additionally, I bring insights gained from several years working with neurodiverse individuals providing a unique perspective from both the individual, and those who support them.

My extensive experience comprises a wide range of challenges, including but not limited to, relationship issues, anxiety, coping with loss, addressing abuse, managing stress, dealing with chronic illness, trauma recovery, and navigating the complexities of depression. Working with Couples / Other Relationships

In my couples and relationships therapy practice, I offer support in enhancing communication, conflict resolution, emotional connection, and intimacy. I assist couples in addressing challenges, setting relationship goals and fostering self-awareness. I also help with trust issues, family dynamics, sexual concerns, and major life changes. My approach is sensitive to cultural and diversity factors, and I tailor it to meet the unique needs of each relationship, ultimately promoting healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

I can help couples improve their relationships and address various challenges. Here are some of the key elements we can work on together:

1. Communication Skills:

Developing effective communication strategies, including active listening, assertiveness, and conflict resolution techniques.

2. Conflict Resolution:

Identifying and addressing the underlying issues that lead to conflicts and provide tools for resolving disagreements constructively.

3. Relationship Assessment:

Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship to identify areas that need improvement, such as trust, intimacy, and emotional connection.

4. Emotional Support:

Offering a safe and empathetic environment where couples can express their feelings and concerns without judgment.

5. Problem-Solving:

Assisting couples in working through specific issues or challenges, helping them find practical solutions and compromise.

6. Relationship Education:

Educating couples about healthy relationship dynamics, boundaries, and strategies to maintain a strong and lasting partnership.

7. Intimacy and Connection:

Helping couples rekindle emotional and physical intimacy, fostering a deeper connection and affection.

8. Goal Setting:

Collaborating with couples to establish relationship goals and create a roadmap for achieving them.

9. Assessing Individual Needs:

Considering the individual needs and personal growth of each partner within the context of the relationship.

10. Improve Self-awareness:

Encouraging self-reflection and awareness, helping individuals understand their own behaviours and their impact on the relationship.

11. Family Dynamics:

Addressing the impact of family and external factors on the relationship and assist in navigating these dynamics.

12. Pre-Marital Counselling:

Offering guidance to couples who are considering marriage, helping them understand and prepare for the challenges and responsibilities of married life.

13. Infidelity and Trust Issues:

Working with couples dealing with trust issues, infidelity, and the process of rebuilding trust.

14. Sexual Issues:

Addressing sexual difficulties and concerns within the relationship, helping couples communicate openly about their needs and desires.

15. Role Changes:

Supporting couples in adjusting to major life changes such as parenthood, career changes, or relocation.

16. Cultural and Diversity Sensitivity:

Being sensitive to cultural, ethnic, and diverse backgrounds of couples, considering their unique challenges and perspectives.

Through counselling, or even before embarking on it, couples may decide not to continue their relationship. Not all relationship work aims to preserve the partnership; sometimes, the most constructive path involves helping couples navigate a separation with grace and understanding. This is an integral aspect of my practice, and I am here to offer support to couples in need of assistance as they part amicably and adjust to life beyond their existing relationship.
